In 1997, the long-running Pasadena-based band Miscellaneous decided to call it a day. The band, consisting of core members Kenji (guitar/vocals), Kermit (bass/vocals), and Sid (drums), had existed since they were in high school together and had released numerous cassettes (and an appearance on KSPC's
Basement Tapes, Vol. 2 compilation).
Following the demise of Miscellaneous, Kenji and Sid started another band, one more directly influenced by the indiepop sounds of such bands as Heavenly and Watoo Watoo. Gathering up a new bassist and keyboardist, they started Pop Ramen (a name they felt appropriate as their songs were all under three minutes long -- the time it takes to cook ramen).
Sadly, the band pretty much only existed for one summer -- the summer of 1997. They played a number of shows in Southern California and took the time to record a handful of songs.
These songs sat on Kenji's hard drive for three years before becoming available here for the first time.
